Characteristics of Malingering Behavior According to the Knowledge Level of Disorder
Lee Sang-Il

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify characteristics of malingering behavior in adults with ADHD according to level of knowledge specific to the disorder. ADHD symptom questionnaires, emotional questionnaires (depression and anxiety), and MMPI-2 were administered to two groups: college students (general group) and licensed clinical psychologists (expert group). The expert group exhibited more sophisticated malingering behavior (characteristics of disorder and age variable are accounted for), but the general group, with relatively little knowledge of ADHD, showed significantly higher discomfort in all evaluation areas. Particularly, the general group reported higher levels of hyperactivity and emotional instability; MMPI-2 revealed the same. Infrequency and clinical indices of validity scales rose to a clinical level in the general group, exclusively. Results of this study suggest that knowledge level of disorders leads to different characteristics of malingering behavior.
